The app also allows you to use the “spot” cleaning on demand function where you can select a dirty spot on your floor map and the robot will make its way over that area with multiple swipes of its cleaning pad. It does an excellent job of removing everything from loose dog hair tumbleweeds to tiny pieces of paper cut up from a recent crafting project.

The Matrix will return to its dock after it has finished cleaning and empty itself into the bin provided. This is a pretty neat feature because it reduces the amount of hands-on maintenance you’ll need to perform.

This robot’s LIDAR mapping sensor is situated just above. This could make it difficult to reach under furniture with low levels such as sofas and tables. This is a good choice for those who don’t mind that it’s a bit higher than other models. Be aware that this model isn’t equipped with a HEPA filter like the other models on this list.

Powerful Suction

The RV2502AE is a great mid-range robot cleaner that can tick all the boxes. It is easy to use, produces precise home maps, and has a self-emptying bagless base. It’s also less expensive to operate than many other robot vacuums.

It also has plenty of power, picking up debris with its suction opening and relying on its side brushes to push hair and carpet threads into the brushroll. This stops the brushroll from clogging up and causing a mess like other robotic vacuums. This makes the machine more effective for picking up hair from pets.

The robot is equipped with an impressive suction system that self-empties the base and high-efficiency HEPA filtration system that captures 99% allergens and dust mites. Contrary to other bump robots that can avoid stairs but this one was having trouble with them. It utilized LiDAR sensors as well as infrared to map my home however, it kept mistakenly identifying the cat condo as a staircase and asked me to move it. In addition, it only had 180 minutes of runtime before it ran out of power, which was shorter than the advertised time.

Self-Empty Base

Some robots, such as this one that self-empty bases. These bases can be used to vacuum or dump debris from the onboard dust bin to an external dirt bin. This makes maintenance simpler. These are known as Clean Base Dirt Disposal (iRobot), Auto Empty Station (Ecovacs) or bagless automated cleaners Self-Emptying Base (Shark). They’re a nice convenience but they can be messy and noisy, plus they typically require the use of specific disposal bags.

This Shark model comes with a HEPA-filtered bagless self-cleaning robots base, and has an impressively large capacity. It can accommodate up to 60 days of debris and doesn’t need emptying every day as some other models. Shark’s suction is powerful enough to handle even the toughest of mess. The docking station’s vacuum to empty the trash bin is surprisingly noisy.

When the robot is plugged into a wall outlet and charging, a beep will be heard and the green light will flash across its top to show it’s time to start cleaning. If the battery of the robot is low, it will dock to its base until it’s recharged. It is important that the dock, also known as Self-Empty Base is set up so that it is not inaccessible by furniture or other items and is free of obstructions.

The model is a bit more expensive than other mid-range robotic mop models we’ve tested. However, it feels more robust and performs better on unfinished floors. It also has longer battery life and fewer maintenance requirements. It also comes with more extensive range of options for automation, including virtual boundary markers. The iRobot Roomba i7 is still our top choice, however, because it feels more durable and refined, charges faster, and gets stuck on rug tassels less often. It also has a higher capacity battery.
